How I'm launching a SaaS being 17 years old

Hey IndieHackers community! My name is Benicio and I'm excited to share my journey of launching a SaaS product while still in high school. I recently made the designs and landing page for Studone, an all-in-one science-based study app that uses proven techniques to help students learn smarter and achieve better grades. Here's how I did it:

Finding the Idea

As a student myself, I struggled with finding a study method that worked best for me. After reading about the benefits of spaced repetition and other scientifically-proven techniques, I decided to create an app that incorporated them all in one place. I surveyed my classmates and received positive feedback, so I knew I was onto something. Plus, existing solutions like Notion seemed too complicated to set up and resulted in a lot of customization needed from the user. I wanted something simple yet effective.

Executing the Idea

Even though I received positive feedback from my colleagues, I decided to get some extra validation in Discord. Fortunately, I got a lot of people interested and they had the same problem as me. In addition, I found a guy that also codes and wanted to help me build this project, just because he liked the idea and thought it would be super useful. It wasn't easy balancing schoolwork and developing the app, but I was determined to see it through. I researched and implemented the best study techniques, such as spaced repetition, progress tracking, and a community feature to keep students motivated and accountable. Currently, we have made all the designs so far, and we're expecting to have a working prototype by the end of next week.

Future Plans

We have got a lot of work left to do. Mainly, finishing the MVP and going through the cycle of Build-measure-learn. I strongly want this to succeed. Once we launch the beta, I thought of giving a free trial (7 or 14 days) and then a small payment per month, something cheap like 10 usd / month per user, since our app is for students.

Launching a SaaS product at 17 has been an incredible experience so far, and I'm excited to see where Studone takes me. If you're interested in learning more or want to try out Studone for yourself, check out our website at https://studone.app. I'd love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you may have. Thanks for reading!

Thank you for sharing! It's amazing that you have been able to identify such pain point in an often overlooked market.
I would recommend you to think about your business model early on since you are delivering to a target who is basically broke. Nevertheless, it will probably be worth it just because of what you are going to learn about B2C.

That's true! I was thinking of charging a little fee (something like 10 usd per month) and offering a free trial. I didn't want to include ads since this is an app for students. Also, implementing a freemium model could also word I guess.

Hi Benicio, that's amazing- and at 17. Impressive!

Would you be willing to share your Studone story?

Founder Club (https://founderclub.com) provides resources and support to those who want to start and grow a successful online business.

We want to hear about your journey and share it on our site to help and educate other founders and business owners while bringing visibility to your own project.

We are initially looking for 10 founders who want to talk about their business journey and would love it if you would be one of them :)

Hi @emmahersh ! Actually, I don't consider myself to be a successful founder (at least yet!). Maybe we could talk in a couple of months if Studone achieves something cool. Thanks for the invitation though!

Hi - that's not a problem. We are actually really interested in talking to people who are just starting out on their founder journey. Probably even more so than people who have 'made it', so we would still love to chat if you're up for it?

Ohh, then, of course! I'd love to take part!

Great!! Do you have an email that I can send some information and a calendar invite link to? 🙂
