How is Apple's featured app curation these days...

I am long time iOS dev who has been fully employed, so not finding time to work on my own projects. But I have a product in the making since long, and I am at a loss of resources and time to market it well. I also have existing apps that I can update in big ways, and I am considering to resubmit them as well.

A possible window for some visibility is Apple's editors' picks section. But these days there is lot of pessimism about app store in general and users getting bored of iOS apps and games and such.

I am not quite sure what are the curation criteria apart from general guidelines like follow their releases, let them know beforehand etc.

Did anyone have any success in this foray recently?
I know it's a kind of jackpot but any stats, feelings, experiences would be uplifting. If not, at least helpful.
