❤️ I wonder if a weekly self care check in would helpful to indie hackers? ❤️
How are you doing?
- I'm finding I have 1 bad day a week, where things just get a bit much and I kind of crash.
- I went for a run around 2pm this week, I won't be doing that again. It wasn't crowded, but I just felt very uncomfortable at having to run around people. I think mostly I will stick to walks and home work outs.
- my husband created a schedule which is helping us navigate and get work done whilst also not neglecting the kids.
- I'm trying to focus on the positives, really it is juggling work with kids that is the hardest part.
It would be helpful, in my view. My family are wonderful but they don't know what it's like to be self-employed, the same as I don't know what it's like to be employed. They're all furloughed (in the UK not working but being paid by the taxpayer) and doing hobbies whereas my partner and I are working harder than ever to keep afloat amidst widespread income disruption.
We keep in touch, naturally, but for those working from home on their own projects in small teams or as solo founders, a support network is invaluable.
For what it's worth, I think it's ok to have a bad day. The trick, I have found, is to recognise it's as such and not to beat yourself up about it. Time to have some downtime for yourself and take care of you.
One of the many wonderful benefits of working for yourself. When you've got your head in the game (thanks Troy B) you can run with it and when you don't you can rest.
The schedule sounds like a good idea. I'm terrible at following them. Is it working for you?
In summary - ok at the moment. Thanks for asking :-)
I took some time off. I'm feeling better now. So I am getting back into a productive routine. Thanks for asking! Sticking to a schedule has always been hard for me, but I know it's important. Let me know if you have any tips.
I did pivot at least for a couple months because my just created business was gonna sell IRL workshops for starters 😲😷
So I'm full time volunteering on a covid collaborative initiative. Which sometimes feels like 'wow when did I get a chance to save lives before!!!' and sometimes wakes up the powerless overwhelm monster 👻👹
Plus the kids but I was already unschooling so I've been prepared 😅🤗
It's still tough as there is no freelance work for me around, but I feel I am getting better now that I have accepted the disappointment that my MVP will not be released for at least 12 months (if at all) as it is an AI based travel product that uses daily data changes. The most gutting aspect was that the MVP was ready for launch mid March which was earlier than my target release.
Also, I cannot seem to identify a new idea for a side project/business which is really frustrating.
It will get better though...
The last 2 weeks were very difficult. Not only the Covid issues everywhere but also our project management Saas should have been done by now. I keep finding small things and what I think will be a few days turn into weeks. It seems that we will be able to get a Beta out in a few days, and hopefully, start signing up users in 2 weeks.
Project management is a very competitive market, Adword PPC, for instance, is over $10 per keyword. Was thinking Reddit communities will be receptive, got banned from /r/projectmanagement on my first mention of it. Very stressed about finding a way to show our product to users. We do have a very useful tool, I can't imagine not having it now, we use it daily and it works great. But finding a way to put it in front of users is proving to be extremely difficult.
Trying to remain focused and positive, but feel exhausted.
I just moved to a different city where things will hopefully be safer, security wise. Packed up my belongings and moved to a new house, within 2-3 days, after having lived there for 3 years.
Now I'm hearing things about banks in my country possibly having solvency issues if the crisis drags on. So, I'm thinking about doing test payments using Stripe, to transfer all of my personal savings, to my company's U.S bank account.
