Here's how LinkedIn's algorithm works as found in Sales Navigator (LinkedIn's paid account.)
The Social Selling Index (SSI) is found in Sales Navigator.
It's the best way to increase your visibility is by focusing on 4 metrics the algorithm uses:
Establish your professional brand
Find the right people
Engage with insights
Build relationships
Each of these is graded on scale of 0-25.
I got the most reach on my posts and the most inbound connection requests as I hit 80 SSI score (At 80 SSI score, I was also ranked in the top 4% of my network).
I've been a bit quiet with responding to other's posts in the past few weeks and my SSI is now at 69. (The biggest drop was in #3 Engage with insights -- go figure. 😉)
Since dropping to 69, I've seen a HUGE drop in inbound connection requests (from 10+ a day to less than 1 a day) and post reach (half of what I got at 80 SSI).
Full disclosure: I sell in this space — Avery Lin (avrlin). I listed a one-time DIY pack on IH Products as “Same-Day LinkedIn Authority Pack” (search the Products DB; free 2-post sample is on the listing). Sold via an AI assistant storefront — also disclosed.
Algorithm threads often optimize for timing/format; the quieter bottleneck I keep seeing is the post itself reading like generic AI slurry once it does get distribution. Offline Markdown blanks (offer-line rewrite + 5–7 short lived posts you can edit tonight) sit underneath the distribution tricks — same LinkedIn motion, more “ship something specific this week” than “chase another hack.”
Curious which algorithm levers in this thread still hold for you — and whether cleaning the proof/voice on the profile changed what happened after a post actually got seen.
Can you estimate how many responses you were making per day when you were at 80 SSI vs when you dropped to 69?
Maybe 3 -5 per day. It wasn't that many.
Great tip, thank you!
You're welcome. Hope it helps.
