How long did it take you to build your MVP?

It would be interesting to know both a weeks/months range and an hours range (e.g. 3 months, 150 hours). Would you do it differently now? Share a link to your project, too!

There are no wrong answers here, and nobody needs to worry if the answer is 'way too long'. 😂 That's part of the learning process, too!

i believe in shipping first so i have a strict limit of 16hours of development and 16hours of initial marketing

IMHO this is the best answer here. Spend the shortest possible time on MVP, and the shortest possible time on marketing.

2 months but also.. only 20-50 hours.

As many others here, I'm balancing a family, full time job and life. So I was only able to dedicate a hour or two a day over the course of two months, working if not every day then every other.

which interesting enough averaged out to only 20-50 hours. Seemed like a lot more when I thought back to it taking 2 months :D

I'm still iterating on that MVP today. We have a few Alpha users and plan to release end of April to our Beta list.

if you play Dungeons and Dragons or are interested in playing/starting and learning to play we'd love to have you join! AdventurePlane

Our hope is to help onboard people who have never played before

It took me about 1 year. Well, I was balancing family, my 9-5, and another project. Now I am working on a landing page for soft launch. https://bypeers.com/early-access/

You must have a lot of patience to keep it moving forward over the long haul like that. Bravo, my friend!

Thank you. I'd have liked to complete it quicker than that but I just had too much on my plate, so to say.

Ionic and Vue - 3 weeks
    Adalo - 4 hours
    Flutterflow - 2 weeks

All in all, still iterating the MVP on Flutterflow 7 months later 😮‍💨

I just released the MVP for https://pingparrot.io. I started work in early January, so it took me roughly two months During that time I put in roughly 35 hours of work. But that's the number of hours spent on focused work - so it can't be compared to a week's work at a normal job.

Implementing the core functionality didn't take a lot of time. Most of the time was spent building everything around that.

it took me a week (10 - 20 hours of working in total) to build this split bill app, https://splitpayments-ba878.web.app/. This app is still in early stage so I havent bought a domain for it yet. I began this app as the need of my wife who usually spent hours for calculating shared costs after every party we had with our friends :).

I started building https://atomcal.com/?src="ih" in the summer of 2021 and it took me 4 months to build the MVP (where the calendar was working with two ways infinite scrolling and you could create events and have the timezones and CLI all working properly).

Then, it took me another 2 months to make the code modular enough to be extendible (for both authentication and calendar server, and the frontend repos).

Then I spent another 2 months building an engine of growth via discord bots and CMS API where every commit I make is automagically added to next week's changelog and feature blogs are written when pull request gets merged.

For example this changelog https://atomcal.com/changelogs/changelog-1646748000000?src="ih" was written entirely by a bot through webhook automation.

Now I am talking with users (and doing a lot of usability tests to decide what to work on next). So far booking links and google calendar support are winning in terms of what people want out of a calendar tool.

Took less than 2 weeks because I was too passionate about the idea and opportunity. It was important for me and my partner to launch at that time even tho the landing page was a bit cranky and a lot of internal process was confusing. We learned how to do things right as we go :)) startup story of www.keyeicon.com

With all my products I tried to get something to show after one month.

That's short enough to keep the motivation and long enough to ship something with a few cores features and get some feedback

Actually, still working on it https://botmenot.com/

I'm planning to update the recommendations section of the app‚ and I'm even considering providing some bot protection solutions.
