How long does the Gumroad account review take?

I launched my app a couple of weeks ago and was expecting to receive the first payment last Friday. Instead, a message appeared in my account on Thursday afternoon saying my account is being reviewed. I understand this happens on every account.

Anyone selling on Gumroad here? How long does this account review usually take?

My account is also in-review more almost 2 weeks now, hopefully it will be reviewed by the start of April.

I made my first sale 27th Jan and received the first payout on 28th Feb. The account review took 3 weeks for my account. Yours should definitely be reviewed by first week of April, and with any luck you might even receive your first payout next Friday.

It really sucked waiting so long for the first payout but now it's done I find the weekly payments really helps smooth cashflow.

Thanks for the answer! Do you get any sales from their marketplace or are all sales coming from your own traffic?

I've had one view from "recommended by Gumroad" but no sales. I guess that was when someone bought another product and mine was shown to them. So far all my sales are from my own traffic.

Update: I received a short email reply from Gumroad today saying account reviews take 1-3 weeks. This is incredibly frustrating as the "your account is in review" message appeared Thursday 6th Feb, the day before I was looking forward to receiving the first payment for my launch week sales. I launched on 27th Jan.

"Okay," I thought, "that's annoying, but fair enough, I guess it will take another few days and hopefully be sorted out early next week." Wrong. Since the account review takes 1-3 weeks, and payouts only happen on Fridays, the soonest I could be paid is the 14th Feb. But if the account review takes the full 3 weeks, I might have to wait until 28th Feb to be paid. That's a full month from my launch date! So much for getting excited to make my first sales and get paid.

So while I was waiting to get a reply from Gumroad I searched online and was scaring myself reading stories of people not getting paid for one reason or another. Mostly (perhaps entirely), it seemed, due to receiving fishy sales that were later reversed. I know the sales I've made are all from legitimate customers as I launched on a private forum where everyone had to pay to be a member. Still, it plants that seed of doubt.

Anyway, I write all this partly for a quick rant about what I'm dealing with but mostly to warn anyone selling on Gumroad for the first time to take all this into account. If you're launching your product on a new account or planning on making your first sales on an existing account and need some of the money for personal reasons or reinvesting in Ads etc., don't count on getting paid for 2-4 weeks. Consider having a second sales page to send visitors to, where sales go straight into your PayPal account. That way you won't be sat staring at your sales dashboard, and money you were counting on having access to.

I like Gumroad's sales page layout so I'm going to create an almost identical one on a new page on my website using Thrivecart embed and direct traffic there for a while.

I hope this info helps someone currently in the dark or planning ahead of your launch.

So far I've been paid between 10am-12pm (UK time) every Friday.
