Guys, you've just broken a record for me. Never saw sby with +100 tabs... and I found it was already a lot!
Do you still have a conscious control of your tabs? Perhaps you are super organized with your tabs, and you know where is where, in this case WOW, I'm impressed.
However, if you're looking for automated cleaning because you feel overwhelmed, your point of view on our beta version would be really much appreciated : tabby.us :) and if it doesn't suit you either, happy to help find other third-party solutions that could help you :)

personally I open a tab to read it later, then another tab for the main reason, then again again.. and sometimes i make time to go thru tabs, digest the material and close
Whenever it gets beyond 10, I just restart everything. If something strikes my attention, I just note it for later and remove it, or I do it now. Not a fan of having lots of tabs open. It dilutes my attention.
Fully agree with you. What's what we experienced during the pandemic crisis: we were working on remote, on single-screen computer and tabs just accumulated... provoking a loss of focus, just as you said.
Have you tried tools like OneTab? It saves all your tabs on one session in one place and you can retrieve them. Perhaps a solution for you?

With tabby you could set a target at whatever-number tabs open and, without that number being a hard limit (like "I can't go more than 10") the AI will periodically remove your inactive tabs in a popup to make sure the relevant tabs are kept in check. It's like auto-cleaning :)

Would you be interested in a tab-decluttering tool for mobile? On desktop, the AI removes the less relevant/inactive tabs periodically and you can retrieve them anytime in 1 click.
-> On mobile, we could perhaps do the same? Your 100 tabs would definitely go down and we would store them somewhere for you to retrieve them easily.

Also, Chrome mobile removes old tabs at some point afaik. Might be a beta or dev feature though.

Could be wrong though, the chrome devs change things every week (at least it feels like it) and this could have been a removed flag by now.

Tabs are a big problem for me and I found methods to work with the browser and I create the "Browser Cleanup Theory". Just a few simple rules and I can manage the tabs. The rules work with HN, Reddit, working projects, etc. I am interested in multiple areas and I must have multiple browsers and tabs open at the same time.
What are your methods? I'm now super curious... did you write an article about this? :)

I have an old i3770k so i have to limit myself under 100, otherwise I'll probably be at 150+ across 4 monitors and multiple desktop view which are great for dividing the workstation for different purpose (windows key + right/left)
Need to upgrade my workstation, waiting for the new ryzen.
Maybe it's just me but I have multiple browsers for different purposes and accounts, so my work environment is total mess.

Yes, i'll also do that, i also divide the work with different desktop views, which are great (windows+right/left)

my range changes from ~3-50, and also use multiple windows
I have a suspender extension and I try to force myself to always close when done with a topic... like new window = new topic, tabs = pages around the same topic...
Like IH, I'd get into one of the lists, open multiple posts and go one by one, deal (read/reply) and close single tab.
Or searching for a things from google search I might open 3 results in tabs, if I find my answer, I can close the window (all 4 tabs)
I'd lose my mind with such an extension 👿
We totally understand that! We're fans of OneTab if you use it? I think it really pionneered the tab management system.
We just think of a new way to create a better ergonomics for another type of users :)

I have only 4 because I have a slow computer.
How old is your computer? Aren't you blocked in your day to day?
I guess you have "too" few tabs to be interested by tabby.us but just know the tool frees 175 Mo of your RAM on average (based from early tests) each time the AI removes a tab, and if your browser is the reason why your computer is slow, this could be worth looking at it.

I've been using Edge, guess it's a good idea to swith to Chrome.
Yesterday I closed a browser with 65 tabs . It really depends on my reboot time for browser. I use nightly build of Firefox which forces me restart it pretty often.
Do you like it to force the restart? people usually keep their browser open - like us for example. :)
Yes, it actually helps me to clear the session and start from scratch.
About 120 on average (on both my development machines). Discovering 'pinned tabs' was a bit of a lifesaver for me!
"Pinned tabs" is a great undervalued feature! When you pin your tabs with tabby, it prevents the AI from closing your tabs :)
I always roam between 10 and 20.
I have some tabs always open:
About 4 or 5 which are things I don't actively use but occasionally (I never turn off my computer). These are related to the work I'm currently working on. For instance atm I'm working on adding a spinner to a web app. I have the docs for a few spinner options. Will close probably at the end of the day or tomorrow when I'm done.
The rest are usually random Twitter, some other documentation I came across and want to read when I have a second and of course Indie Hackers.
This is really helpful @boristane. It seems you control exactly your working space environement.
I'm not sure tabby.us would be useful for you because I think, under the "relax" or "focus" mode, we would certainely close your docs. Of course you can retrieve them later (we have a "restore tab" button and 3 days of tabs history, without any limit and with a search bar) but if you need them on the fly, you'd be pissed!
I just checked your website, awesome product @tabbydotus! I can see a loooot of people using it and I'll make sure I recommend it to the tab hoarders I meet!
When I keep tabs open I want to get back to them generally. That's why I started building https://bkmark.io. Keep them for checking later. I can imagine an integration between the two products where closed tabs are sent to a bookmark collection haha!

More than 20 in multiple browser instances... Sometimes I just forget that I have multiple browser instances opened.
I usually have 2 sessions open for both the Gmail accounts I have. 39 tabs in total 🙈

You can expect a little bit of cleaning for each profile, just to help your eyes focus on the most important tabs. The removed tabs are accessible in one click, and store for 3 days ... with their content! So you really never lose your work :)
I'm using a combination of chrome extensions plus chrome users to separate out my work. Sounds like you're into something clever, but I'm pretty invested in my current setup.

It works for me but it took a while to work it out! Also a little nervous to have to trust 2 extensions.

If I change subject I use a new browser instance and start creating tabs on that...
Eventually there's too many and I close them all down and start again.
Most irritating thing for me is when I know I had some information on one Rab, but lost track of where it is... Either have to search through 100+ tabs or search the internet for it again...
OMG @NotNull, we can relate to that sooooo much. During the pandemic crisis, everyone was forced to work on remote and I lost my monitored screen. I realized I opened duplicates all the time, I open multiple browser instances, and it slowed down my computer so much... and my decision-making process.
I made too many useless clicks, on too many tabs, and couldn't find what I wanted...

To be honest it's not somthing I thought I needed, probably because I'm just set in my ways... The more I think about it the more sense it makes though... I've installed it to give it a go and get a feel for it. IL let you know how it goes :)
I open anywhere between 5 and 10.
90%+ time I keep it under 10, 90%+ time I've less than 5 unread messages in my inbox. Right now, I've 0 unread messages, but 30+ tabs opened. :-D

@taimoorapps, you have the right way of working... Scattered focus is a real pain for many people. A couple of weeks ago a user reached out and she shared she had ADHD (loss of attention online). She claims the AI really helped her stabilizing her browsing experience - she used to constantly open dozen of tabs all the time...
We're perhaps asking too much, but if you could share tabby.us with your friends who have 50+ tabs open at once, it would represent a big step for us into understanding our user target behaviour...
We're still under the beta and the product is 100%, so your friends could reach out to us directly for feature request/bugs/improvements for their personal needs. If they come from you, we would prioritize the communication with them. What do you think? A huge thanks in advance.
