How many projects are too many?

Working on several at a time can work, depends on you personally and the way that you can work and focus.

But key is to make sure that the primary focus stays steady on the biggest reward, not switching each day. One will be closer to the line of success than the others, you need to drive that over the line until it is self sufficient, before switching priority to the next.
Once each project sustains itself, get that project a partner who maintains its effort.

The problem is, you divide your energy between a lot of things. That's one of the reasons we took this month to finish all the mini side projects. You always have something in mind that is unfinished. All this stuff has to go out of my head.

The dilema between, variety and concentrating on one thing.

I personally can handle many projects, but only through Gitlab. Without a project management software you lose track. But I'm trying to change that for the next few years.

With my software agency background, I used to be able to juggle multiple projects at a time. These days I prefer to have hunker down and focus on one thing at a time to preserve my sanity 😂

This is my typical week as a full time employee of company X with 2 products and more launching soon.

An overview
=============

1. My work at Company X typically starts at 9am till 5:30pm,
2. One of my product (A) has a full time employee and we are in 2 different countries - www.kambamusic.com
3. The other product(B) I just launched 3 weeks ago and am doing it all by myself - www.pesatime.com
4. Planning on launching an MVP of another one in the next 2 weeks

What I usually do
=============

• At company x, I don't have any choice but after my 1 hr lunch break between 1-2pm, I usually have like 20min for my self.

1. I do daily scrums with my amazing guy for product A for 30min max between 8:00am - 9am(Either before I leave the house or when am commuting to work place). This can be on Whatsapp text or if there is anything that requires we do a call, we do it before i leave the house. This is to have a plan for the day, discuss on what happened the day before, whether there were any roadblocks, anyone needs support from the other guy and what to work on that day.

2. Between by 8hr job, my Whatsapp is always on the PC just incase my guy has an issue that needs to be addressed. I usually check my emails once in a while or check my admin dashboard and open payments page, then users and close it :D Just to see if we are making any money.

3. 30min lunch time, we usually call it ping time- like hey man, Iam done with my lunch, tsup there? is everything ok? This is not mandatory though I feel comfortable checking if my guy is ok.

4. After work, I usually get into the house at around 6:30pm. For 3hrs, it's family time until 10pm or 9:30pm. After this, I usually do like 2 or 3hrs on either of the projects. Be it creating a marketing plan, or working on a feature x or just catching up with my product A.

and the cycle goes on for the entire week.

5. On Saturday is the day I do a-lot of work because I don't usually work for Company X that day. I have a very nice office setup at home and a small chair for my 3year old son who sits next to me doing literally nothing :)

• We do a 2hr call between 10am - 12 noon with my product A guy where we reflect on what we did for the week and plan for the week ahead then he leaves the office and I continue with my work till I feel completely drained.

6. Sunday is a no work day to spend with my family. The only thing I do is just check if all my products are doing fine from my mobile phone. I only open my laptop if at all we want to Netflix.

Summary
============

1. I feel totally ok with working on multiple projects at a time

2. When I am done with an MVP of product X, I do marketing for like a week - this becomes the primary product - then get another project to code(secondary product) as I monitor my marketing strategy, fix bugs and iterate on product X. I can't stay more than 1 week without coding. Note: I am super fast in coding because I use the stacks am familiar with - 5hrs of my coding time is really a lot.

3. I don't want to get stuck in one product for months only to realise it doesn't have any potential. I try to experiment with multiple until I get one I can purely concentrate on.

Running our company occupies the most of my time, but I try to dedicate at least an hour or two each day to working on side projects. I have a half dozen websites I’ve been building up, some for a couple years now. I like it because I’m easily distracted and it lets me put some variation into my day, and I can build projects without pressure.

I try to stick to 1 project at a time because I know even if I plan on a 70/30% I'll almost always gravitate toward the new project. The exception is if one project seems like a good traffic/lead generator for the other. It depends on your goals though. Are you trying to turn your current project into a business?

Focus on one project at a time block a decent amount of time for it.

Having your brain swap between coding and marketing is never good. You won't be able to come up with the best ideas.
