I have a project, https://toucanfx.com, which costs me, monthly:
Heroku: $7
Heroku Postgres: $5
Resend: free tier
AWS S3: less than $1
Elevenlabs: $0 (since I have no customers so far) Total: $13
This is quite costly, as I'm making $0/month.
Curious to know yours.
I mostly use Heroku and AWS services for projects, so my costs are pretty aligned with yours. However, I recently started using Fly_io, and I'm very happy with it, especially for testing projects since (it seems) they waive the payment if the total is lower than $5, so some months it's free.
For my site
Hosting: $40
LLM: $20
Domain: $1.16 (about 14 usd per year)
Transactional Email: $15
Google Workspace: $14
just basic tier hosting
At the moment, my side project costs me about 10 dollars for my domain (yearly) and about 10 dollars a month in API-related costs.
All development is done by me, so if I can build it myself and host it on my Raspberry Pi cluster, I do it to lower costs and gain experience that I leverage at work or for other projects/clients.
My newsletter UpGroves.com is costing me around $45/mo:
I'm also making $0/mo, expecting to change that soon.
I save the Google Workspace cost by using Zoho - 5 email addresses with your custom domain are free. But it does have some disadvantages.
I use pay for Google because it has better deliverability and less chances to be tagged as Spam
I paid less than $1 for my firebase costs last month. Plus some of the Claude API costs of about 20$ last month. The AI costs are purely usage-based for my brandpoint.ai project. This excludes domain costs.
API: $0 because I still fall under aws lambda free tier.
DB: $0, I use mongodb cloud because of the free tier
WEB: $0 on render.com
You could try cockroach db to save the $5, not sure what your api tech stack is so can't recommend anything there
Is it 0 on render.com because it's a static site?
yip static, but if I'm not mistaken Azure will host a next.js site for free if you have < 100 GB of traffic
Great to hear that
About $25 a month, I host myself.
Around $40/month, not including annual domain renewal charges.
