We all have a limited amount of time we can spend working on our respective projects.
Whether it's our full-time focus, a side hustle or a side hustle we hope turns into a full-time gig, we have a daily decision on how much time to spend promoting what we do.
As I am preparing to shift my focus for FitSquad from building to promoting, I'm curious how other Indies think about their time split.
While I realize there are more activities in a business than building and promoting (managing, accounting, administrating - that's a word right? 😀, etc.) these two activities likely make up the bulk of our time.
So how much time do you currently spend on promoting (marketing, sales) vs. building? Are you happy with that split? Does it need to change for you to be successful?
Thoughts welcome!
It varies from week to week. Right now I am promoting vtuberdm on twitter everyday.
I am also doing cold emails too. Right now I have development pause until I build a core group of users or critical mass around my marketplace.
That's my current thinking: Build the product to a certain level, they switch to promoting. Once users are in and you get feedback, then potentially switch back to improve experience
99% building because I have a co-founder who's an amazing marketer 😆
Haha that's the way to go! Focus on what you do best/enjoy most and partner up in the other areas
Usually, only spending an hour or so a day promoting Sidekick. I think it's working for now, because users are coming in!
But, there's just so much development to be done for the app the be in a good healthy place. So for now, that's where our attention is!
I think after we get it to a certain spot, reach a certain set of KPIs, then we'll switch the attention to marketing/promoting.... (famous last words :P)
