How much would it cost to develop a No-Code App Builder?

I'm doing some research on developing a No-Code App builder that has pre-built components and uses a Google Sheet, that a user creates, as a database. Essentially it would be something similar to GlideApps and Adalo but with additional components and templates.

Does anyone have an idea on how much it would cost to develop, host and maintain and what technology stacks would be ideal for a project like this?

p.s (If anyone already has a platform like this and is looking for partners or potentially selling it, please let me know)

I already tried a no coding app builder, but ran into a financial problem. I had to implement a lot of services that had to be integrated into one application and work on different platforms. Either my development team was no good, or I didn't have enough money for people to work for me and make my dream come true. I saw a flipabit service where you can create an application without any coding or other programming code. I'm not a pro at this, I do not know how to call it right. However, nothing prevents me from making a store and tying the app to it so that people can download it in the store and through it make purchases and place orders.

Pricey, and there's a big risk of spiraling costs because target userbase isn't well defined, leading to a "please everyone" approach

Thanks for the info! Yeah I do agree on that.

    I tried with noco.io.

It's technically challenging (the way I did it), endless customer support questions, and not that much money per app.

Thanks! That's interesting info. Didn't think too much about the customer support...

Hey there! That’s awesome that you’re thinking of getting into the no-code tools space. I’m there myself, building a platform for the web, and it’s incredibly fun and rewarding.

In terms of scoping the project, the above comment by Sergey is super helpful. But just wanna add a few things of note:

First, the project is really broken down into two major components — (1) the web app that people will log into to design/create their app; (2) the app-specific code that will translate/compile these apps into native code for devices and then upload to the App Stores, etc.

To that end, as the editor web app expands in complexity, you can almost guarantee that the app-specific logic will also have to expand. So when scoping your project, may be helpful to identify what core features are absolutely necessary & what UI components/templates are a must have, and then lock the scope right there.

And lastly, if both sides of the project are reasonable in scope, think that you could probably have an MVP built in about three to four months and for about $45k USD. This price-range obviously won’t include every bell and whistle but it can get you to a launched MVP that lets you build the business, raise some funding, etc.

Oh, and just as a quick mention, feel free to reach out to discuss further, ask questions, and/or inquire about having this built. I’m a contract developer with a love of design/no-code tools and am always interested in meeting people that share the same passion!

Thanks a lot for the useful info! I was thinking of the platform mostly focusing on generating web apps rather than compiling them to native code for devices but even without that I can understand that it's still a complex project and it will cost quite a a lot to implement. I'll just take it step by step and learn how to build it myself, I'll get there eventually :) Regarding your services, do you have experience deploying Node.js apps to production?

Love it! You’re gonna learn so much from a project like this. And yep, have a lotta experience in Node :). Love me some JavaScript.

have you seen appsheet? Sounds pretty much identical

Yeah I heard of it before. Didn't get the chance to try it out yet.

It depends a lot on the final requirements you set and who will be your end-user. Depends on how sophisticated they are in logic/programming, requirements for your platform will change quite significantly. I would estimate a basic MVP as at least half a year of work and thus you're looking for a price of at least $60-100k. Also, a project like this requires constant developer support and (I assume) quite a sizeable customer care team that can help users navigate through their problems. You should estimate this in your business model as well.

I'm playing with a similar idea but I'm very far from anything that can be released even to friends. My goal is to build a much more robust system than Adalo or GlideApps, but I also target people who know at least basics of programming and are able to build a good enough data model for their future app.

PS another important factor to consider is whether you want to allow building multi-tenant SaaS or apps for use inside a team (I call them internal). Internal apps already pretty well covered with a bunch of tools like Integromat, Microsoft PowerAps, Zapier, etc. Microsoft PowerApps is pricey but it enables mind-blowing use cases that are suitable even for enterprises.

Thank you very much for the reply Sergey and all the useful information! Yes I do agree it's going to be a large project for sure and will cost quite a lot. I think I'll just have to take it step by step and actually build it myself from scratch, same way you are doing.
