How My First ProductHunt Launch Went From Worst to Best Night of My Life

I'm Nic, I'm 22 and 2 weeks ago I had my first PH launch. I didn't expect it to happen that fast

I've been a part of buildinpublic community on Twitter for a few months already, already failed with one product and started another one - heavy-focused on SEO to help you find the cocktail you'd love - https://www.cocktailwave.com/

On that Saturday night I wanted to schedule my PH launch to happen oh Tuesday.

I was really scared and anxious. I double-checked all the PH guides and all of that aaaaaaand. I clicked the wrong button ๐Ÿ™ˆ

As you might already know, when launching on PH, there are 2 buttons:

  • Launch Now
  • Schedule Launch for Later

And they're very closed to each other. Divided in maybe 8px or so.

I pressed the wrong button. And 14hours into the day, my product got launched.

I immediately tweeted on that, tried to reach out to the support of PH, mentioned PH on Twitter and also wrote DM to them. Nothing worked. I couldn't change anything

However, the Twitter community helped me a lot. The tweet got viral and I got 20 upvotes within my first hour(15th hour of the overall Saturday launch)

It was then when I found out my Product was not featured. And it's not shown in the list. No one could basically see it. PH support still didn't respond

  • In the end of the day, I got to 100 upvotes which is huge for me
  • I still didn't get featured
  • I still haven't received an answer from PH support
  • Obviously I don't even have a # of the day(because I'm not featured)
  • And not that many people actually found out about my product

Still, I'm very grateful for all the support I received from the community. I've been very humbled by the support I received and it gave me a huge motivation to keep moving.

And if you're still here, I have 1 important lesson for you - be EXTRA careful preparing a launch.

Once you press a button - there's no way back

Hey Nic, congratulations on the launch!

I'm an amateur mixologist so this is right up my street :)

How are you doing the search? Keyword match?

    1. 1

All the cocktail tastes are saved as embeddings and the search saved as embedding. And when I search - I just find the closest embeddings.

It works better because if you use a similar word - it still works fine, because embeddings rely on the overall meaning

      1. 1

Fantastic. What are you using to generate the embeddings?

I've just launched an app that uses embeddings too, but I'm using OpenAI's API to create them.

        1. 1

I use openai's embedding model, save them to pinecone afterwards

          1. 1

hey @nikpolale , I want to make you a couple of questions on how you manage Pinecone data, where can I reach you privately?

            1. 1

you can write me on twitter @ nikpolale
