Hi everyone, I am Farid from Beep and in December 2023 we launched on PH and got the first spot.
In this article, I want to answer a big question:
"Is it actually worth trying so hard to get 1st place on PH?"🤔
Let's start with how hard it was.
We had to start preparing 4 weeks in advance, spend endless hours growing our fanbase, invite them to our teaser page, and then try to message all of them on the launch day.
So from 0 to 10, I would say the hardness level was 8.
I am hosting a free virtual event, explaining in detail all the steps we took to get 1st place. If you are interested, feel free to 🔗sign up here.
Now lets talk about Pros and Cons
Cons:
- We didn't get as many new users as we expected
- If your target audience doesn't align with PH users then you won't have much traction
- The efforts it took us to get there didn't correlate with the initial results
Pros:
- Having that N1 spot badge on your website is good for credibility
- If you are planning to raise money, then saying that you got 1st spot raises investor interest
- Very helpful to create partnerships with other companies. We were able to partner up with AppSumo because of that which drove $30k+ in sales.
- It can be used as good pr to get even more users
Getting 1st place in itself didn't drive many results, but we used our N1 badge correctly to drive results after the launch.
Example:
- I published about our N1 spot on all social media, that drove new sign ups
- I published multiple articles on Reddit and IndieHackers about getting 1st spot and that in itself drove results
- The launch itself drove only ~300 sign ups, while all the things we did with N1 badge drove close to ~1k sign ups
- Many businesses reached out to us for partnerships
So it is more about how you use the N1 spot badge for credibility than the effect you get from the launch itself.
