How One Evening of Work More Than Doubled My Signups

This is a graph showing the percentage of users that got to my signup page, and then actually created an account.

Signup % over the last 4 months

On average, my conversion rate jumped from just under 20% to over 60% overnight. So what changed?

I only did 2 things:

  1. I simplified the signup form.

Originally, users had to fill out name, email, password, and confirm password. But I already had a working password reset flow, so I removed the confirmation field and replaced the password input with a show/hide toggle. Fewer fields = fewer drop-offs.

  2. I added Google, GitHub, and Microsoft SSO.

And this was the game-changer. Today, almost nobody uses the manual signup form. Nearly everyone clicks an SSO button instead.

Why you need to add SSO:

  • Trust: Seeing Microsoft or Google makes the site feel more legitimate.

  • Speed: No new password to remember. No typing. Literally just clicking 2-3 buttons.

  • Convenience: It just works, especially on mobile.

  • Verification: Most likely, you will get higher quality leads as you are getting the email from an account linked with SSO.

Did you see a big jump when you added SSO?

And if you haven't yet, please add it. It makes it so much easier for me to try out :)
