I wonder if there are any long term effects, how will you plan to measure that?

We'll continue to follow the cohort of direct to paid sign ups closely so that we understand their behavior longer term as well. But we're already on to a new pricing experiment now, so I don't think the long term affects will be too substantial in either case.

A lot of post recently including yours have had pretty good success with removing freemium plans, we're thinking of doing the same while offering a trial for the others. I noticed you only offer a trial for the basic plan, and what is your opinion on asking for cc upfront? thanks for the post.

All of our plans offer the same feature set, so we're now experimenting with offering the trial on the entry level plan where most people likely want to start. There's not real reason not to offer the trial on the other plans, though.

The idea behind asking for credit card information up front is to continue to add friction to the sign up process (albeit slightly less than when we were asking users to go directly to a paid plan). We're looking to find people that are serious about adopting the product and onboarding successfully rather than those just kicking the tires on the product. We'll definitely get fewer leads, but higher quality ones.
