How purpose & focus helped me over the first 10 months of my solopreneur journey

I'm 10 months into my IndieHacker journey but spent the majority of that time learning visual development tools like Webflow and Bubble so that I can stitch my ideas together.

I could be hard on myself that I'm not as far as I want, but I've come a long way with these skills and every day is an opportunity to get better and work towards my goal of being a solopreneur.

It's this purpose that helps me stay focused and optimistic.

This goes without saying that each day is going to have its ups and downs. But your purpose and sense of direction will get you to show up every day and move you closer towards your goal.

So, purpose leads to focus. And when you're lacking focus, purpose brings you back.

Keep it going. I went through a similar journey with RetroTeam

Everyone needs to have a plan. You may not follow that plan, but having one helps.

Keep on building Steve! And keep pushing them live!

I would say I can relate to this. Focus is challenging at times when learning new skills and I also have a full-time job too. I applaud your effort and tenacity. Keep it going!!!

I think your skills will compound, and that will eventually pay off. Keep it that way!

This is great. It is so hard to lose focus when your project is taking much longer than you originally hoped. If you go into multiple months, and lack good daily habits or a solid purpose, it is very easy to get off track and lose motivation/focus on the end goal because it seems so far off.

By focusing on your purpose and a daily habit of just moving the project forward a little bit each day, you will get to end of your journey. It might take longer, but you will get there.

I'm 10 months into my own project and can honestly say there was a large bit of time that I lost all motivation and focus, but by restating my purpose and rebuilding daily habits, I'm back on track and getting closer to actually launching Eurotripr.com as a usable MVP.

It's definitely a roller coaster ride, thanks for sharing @Scotalia and congrats on the progress of Eurotripr

Hey Steve, are you already stitching your ideas together with the acquired knowledge? Or are you waiting with the execution before your knowledge is sufficient?

      Hey Matt, great question.

I've learned that I'm a person that needs to feel confident using the tools before building. I say that because I can say in hindsight that I should have built my ideas while learning. Do what works for you but make sure you have the time/money run way that allows you to learn vs. build.

Something that really helped early on was joining the Makerpad's No-Code Fundamentals that @bentossell created. I was able to build a few projects, like landing pages, a decision making app in Adalo and some others. You also get to see that there's a cohort of others who are walking the same path as you and there's some accountability, that's the beauty of cohort-based courses.

I still lurked in the background for the past 10 months though. So that's why I'm making an effort to share my experience and learnings so that others can feel more confident to jump in.

Without sounding hard on myself, I love this quote from a book I recently read.

Start then learn. Don't learn then start.

        build. learn. build.

I wanted to share the same quote with you. 😀 Love the book.

        Keep up your efforts!

Hi Steve, thanks for your post. I relate to this alot! Purpose / mission is the motive that carries me through the rough times of building a startup. And it also helps me cut through the noise of spending too much time on things that don't matter i.e. it grants focus!!

I agree. It's definitely hard but great you're able to pull yourself back into building and spending time on the right things. I go through the same thing. Constantly!
