Hey Indie Hackers!
If you’re a YouTube creator, you know how hard it can be to grow your audience. Whether you’re sharing tips, vlogs, or tutorials, promoting your channel is a constant challenge. One often - overlooked tool that can help? QR codes.
QR codes are simple, scannable links that make it ridiculously easy for people to access your YouTube content - no typing required! Think about it: Instead of asking someone to “search for my channel,” you can hand them a direct, scannable link. This is especially powerful if you’re promoting your content offline or in person.
Here are a few ways QR codes can help you grow your YouTube channel:
Promote Your Videos Everywhere: Add QR codes to your business cards, flyers, posters, or product packaging to share your latest video or playlist.
Make Events Interactive: Hosting an event or workshop? Include a QR code to your channel in the presentation or on promotional materials.
Merge Online and Offline: Use QR codes to bridge the gap between real-world interactions and your online content. People can scan and subscribe on the spot!
Track Engagement: With dynamic QR codes (like the ones you can create on OpenQR.io), you can track how many people are scanning and engaging with your YouTube content.
I published a blog post detailing exactly how to create a QR code for your YouTube channel: How to Create a QR Code for Your YouTube Channel. It’s a simple process, but it can make a big difference in your promotion efforts.
As a solo creator, I’ve seen firsthand how small tweaks in how you promote can make a big difference. QR codes help remove friction for your audience, making it as easy as possible for them to engage with your content. And in the world of YouTube, every new subscriber counts!
If you’re looking for ways to grow your channel, give QR codes a try. Check out the blog post for the full guide, and let me know if you have any questions - I’m happy to help!

Hey Nerijus, hope this goes well. Just got back from 3 weeks in China, where QR codes seem to be used more.
I like your blog posts as explanation of use cases, but I think your landing page should have much more concise versions of 3 specific uses, and then you should separately be promoting 1 of those use cases heavily in 1 niche, whether paid ads or social marketing.
Hey, thanks for the feedback and for sharing your thoughts! 😊 It’s super interesting to hear about how QR codes are used in China. For example which are the most popular.
I appreciate your suggestion about the landing page and focusing on specific use cases. Maybe I will create separate landing page for each case. I think it can work. Right? :)
that can definitely work. A/B test first based on the 2 most likely use cases first.
QR codes in China, the obvious one seen everyday is for payments, either the buyer scanning the seller's, or the seller scanning the buyer's. Both are common.
Another situation I've seen that doesn't happen in the US is like a grid of 4 QR codes, that each go to different use case within a restaurant or retail place. Can't remember specifically which ones, but I think US consumers aren't used to that.
Also, the QR codes themselves, are even more visually appealing like
