Hey Indie Hackers,
Can you help me understand and validate an idea?
I am thinking about creating a shopping cart as a service web app, and really need the creators' opinions on this.
To help you started, a couple of questions:
If you sell digital assets, do you prefer platforms (Gumroad, etc.) over self-hosted solutions. If yes, why?
Are you a developer? How hard is it for you to implement a shopping cart by yourself?
I built Shoprocket in 2013 to try and solve this one :P

Love it! Great project, Ryan!
How did you come along with the idea?
I used to run a digital agency in London and we were constantly having to build ecommerce sites with various plugins or platforms, at the time most were terrible and involved ongoing maintenance just to keep them online.
I had the idea to create something reusable that we could just drop into any project, and it quickly became it's own product. We were invited to a few accelerators and ended up going with Seedcamp and were funded pretty quickly!
Thank you, Ryan!
Yes. Because I've yet to find any self-hosted solutions that is as fast and easy as these platforms in setting up my product to sell.
I'm used to be a software developer but I would not waste time building a SC from scratch when there are pre-existing solutions out there.
Similar to email marketing platforms like Convertkit or the likes, I wouldn't spend time building my own platform to send out my email newsletters.
Cheers!
Thanks for the reply!
