How should I create a marketing plan for my first release?

Hey all!

I'm about to release my first paid product, a Twitter extension that allows people to fully customize the Twitter UI and color scheme.

Since I've never done this before, I'm not quite sure how I should go about marketing this. I want to have a solid marketing plan before I release it.

Do you have any tips/tricks you use to market your products?

Hi Jarod, a marketing plan can potentially involve several activities. From your message I can imagine you don't have a team/budget to manage all, such as PPC, SEO, influencers, social media, etc.

I can't talk for something I'm not an expert in, but I can give you a tip or two about lead gen with SEO.
The first step in your process should be getting customers, free or paid, this would give insights about the product who is the best fit audience and why. If you don't have them you should get some hypothesis of the reason why your product is good for your users.

I can also imagine that you created the product based on a necessity or demand you identified with some market research.

Once you collected some information about your customers, I'd suggest to start creating content that target them, with topics specific and related to the problem you solve.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post that can be helpful here whose focus is finding content ideas that can sell, this is the link: https://learninbound.com/blog/how-to-find-content-ideas-sell/

I also suggest you to identify site where your audience hang out so you can analyse their keyword strategy, their audience, create partnerships with them and rely on their own audience, given that you're pretty new.

    Hope this can help Jarod.
