How should I feel about this mediocre response to a Reddit post?
Yesterday I made a post in the Twitch subreddit, for my webapp that is built for Twitch streamers. For some context, the tool allows users to easily add a watermark to their clips with their Twitch details, to be ready to post to social media.
There was some miscommunication with the moderators of the subreddit, and the post was taken down after 1 hour 😕
However, in that 1 hour, I got 3 signups to my website 🎉. I felt like I was finally onto something. (non-paying customers but hey)
Fast-forward to this morning, moderators have approved my request over night, and I post again. After a full day I recevied a few questions, and... 2 signups.
Not the raging success I was almost ready to let myself belive was possible.
So now, I feel like I have a tight, reliable MVP, an obvious niche, and a good opportunity to actually learn about ads, marketing etc. I won't walk away empty handed, as I have needed to learn this side of things on my entrepreneurial journey, and it will come in handy.
So aside from the fact that I will be continuing on for the sake of learning (worst case scenario)... how would those of you who are more experienced than I am react to the Reddit post flop?
I'd also explore other subreddits - some subs can be very annoying.
Reddit is a good place to post, but it's hit or miss most of the times. If you're confident with your product just be liberal in your posting, meaning post in every group you can find that's related (to Twitch in your case).
Are you planning to launch it on ProductHunt yet?
tbh I'm not sure about launching on ProductHunt, mainly feeling that it would be a distraction, as I don't see many of those users being in the market for my product. Typically, I see products relating to webdev that do well over there. Any particular reason to post on ProductHunt in your opinion?
You never know - it's a web app so might be worth posting, I'm sure part of the Twitch demographic is on there. Would help for discovery and SEO as well I'm guessing.
Posting is a pretty cheap activity in terms of effort. I know it doesn't seem so at first, esp for people like you and me who like to think 10 times before doing it. But if I've learned something is that you've gotta make that activity as cheap as possible to max out your chances of success.
You can also go for a smarter, more targeted strategy. I'd do both, post everywhere one hour per day, then scheme about more complex plans afterwards.
You already have your product out there in an usable form, now is the time to push is as strong as possible.
Here's a tip - if I were thinking about a targeted strategy I'd choose a popular streamer (like https://www.twitch.tv/limmy in my case) and try to convince them to promo my product. And do this until somebody says yes.
Ok yep I'll post it on producthunt. I've listened to podcasts about how to do a good launch, having an audience before hand, posting at midnight, getting hunted etc. but I think I'll just do the best I can with timing, and record a short Loom video :)
That would be awesome to have a streamer promo, good thinking. When I've reached out to streamers in the past, it is difficult to get anyone's attention with a sizable audience. Do you have any suggested reading in regards to achieving better results with cold outreach?

I would say, in usual cases, it happens. The best thing would be to move on and maybe explore some other platforms where you can promote your tool.
I, similarly, posted a call for beta users for BMN and not many people responded.
You do have specificity in your case, though. That moderator action is kind of a "salt to the wound" and makes this result more bitter. However, you do have at least something to work with - those 5 new signups in total, so there's that.
To respond directly to your question - there is no right or wrong way how you should feel.
My advice is don't let it get to you, it really isn't indicative of the quality of your product!

nice thanks i was hoping to hear from people with similar experiences. I wasn't too annoyed with the mods, I think I was just dealing with different mods at different times with different opinions.
Did you just ditch reddit for BMN and focus on other channels?
More or less, that's what I'm doing.
However, I wouldn't say I have completely "ditched" Reddit—it's still in the (far) back of my mind. It's just that I'm finding other channels more suitable for myself, both in terms of the communities and the functionality of the platforms.
