How should you promote your product in Facebook Groups?

Most IndieHackers and bootstrappers suggest leveraging FB Groups for promoting your product, but this hasn't worked for me because most groups don't allow product promotion...

Have you figured out ways around this? If your audience is on Facebook, how do you get to them for free / low-cost?

I had a lot of success building up my own FB groups, using FB ads.

    The funnel was something like:

    • Drive paid traffic to a Facebook Page, with a "Likes" campaign
    • Cost per like is around $0.10, since FB wants you to keep people on platform
    • After spending around $5,000, we had a FB page of 30,000+ people
    • Regularly post interesting content to the page, and spin-off a FB Group for people on the page to meet each other
    • Keep promoting the group on the page, along with posting good content
    • Every once in a while, promote my own products in the group

Very interesting! How would you rate the quality of users you got with paid advertising?

Quality is the part that scares me the most with FB paid ads

They were high quality, but we only did this after we were sure of the niche. I think we'd already generated $100,000 or so from this market, when we decided to invest in building a page + group.

So we knew we already knew this was a profitable segment for us. Spending $5,000+ to build up the page and the group made sense, because it had a high ROI for us.

We didn't just use the group for sales, but to ask them for product feedback, ideas on future products, etc. So it was a genuine community outreach.

I probably would not start with this strategy, as a way to test a new market. But once you know it's a good market for you, it works well.

Facebook groups did not work for me as well. So, I think creating our own group with our own rules is better.

Makes sense. How would you acquire users for your own group?

You better work on Youtube, Facebook content, build facebook group from the view you get.
Always ask them to join your group. that's it

Otherwise, you will get garbage, nothing else. Time and money are all waste.
I wish you good luck :)
