For years, I was using a blurry, outdated family photo as my profile picture… 😅
It wasn’t until last year that I realized just how bad it was. The picture was a crop from a family photo when my sons were 3 and 6 years old (they’re 7 and 9 now!). It was grainy, poorly lit, and didn’t represent who I am today.
For a while, I just ignored it.
But then I started my master’s degree, and I needed a more professional image to present myself. I tried snapping some selfies, but neither my wife nor I are skilled photographers.
The results? Slightly better quality, but not quite right.
I ended up using one of those photos at my graduation, standing in front of over 1,000 people… and felt so awkward.
Everyone else had professional, polished pictures, and there I was, with an image that just didn’t feel like me.
After that moment, I set out to solve this problem.
I dived into learning about generative AI models and how I could train them using my own photos. The results were mind-blowing!
I saw the potential in creating not just better photos, but professional images that actually represented who I am today.
Around the same time, I noticed a growing trend: personal branding. Whether you’re marketing a business, trying to get a new job, or just standing out online, your profile picture is a huge part of how people perceive you.
In a world where you’re competing with millions of posts for attention — and where you’ve got under a second to make an impression — your profile picture is one thing you can control.
But I realized a lot of people, just like me, were using outdated images that didn’t reflect their current selves.
That’s when I knew I could turn my solution into a product.
I built aiselfi.es to help people create professional, authentic photos that showcase the best version of themselves.
If you want to test it out, check it out at aiselfi.es 📸. Let’s make sure you look as good as you are!
This is super cool, congrats man. This is a slightly competitive market with alot of tools already creating headshots for linkedin and other platforms, that said one idea for differentiation... with folks who have remote teams, like mine, this could be a great way to help them generate their own headshots for use on linkedin, slack, gmail, etc. so perhaps positioning as a tool for remote worker/staff is a point of differentiation. good luck!
Thanks for the tips @candyman86 ! That is actually a great idea :)
my pleasure, actually I had a colleague whip up profile photo headshots for the whole team that, we put our logo in the background and the headshot in front... could be a cool feature for your app in future? Happy Holidays
cool idea :) thanks!
I'm in the process of building some mini tools to do background changes.
Great , Jonathan! I recommend using SEO AI to enhance your website's SEO. It can help ensure your new business gets the visibility it deserves. Excited to see where this journey takes you!
Thanks for the tip @Smoteria . I'll definitely check it out :)
It’s amazing how many of us keep using old photos and don’t realize how much they shape our personal brand, especially when we’re trying to make a professional impression. It’s also inspiring how you turned a personal challenge into a creative solution with aiselfi. es, letting others upgrade their own online presence! 📸👏
And you're so right—our profile picture speaks volumes in a split second. This is such a valuable tool for anyone looking to stand out authentically. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Thanks for the support @Mikitka 👏👏
This is a great one, Jonathan!
I recommend adding a testimonial section to the site. The number of people who have done this is great, but letting them know how effective the site is for their brand by sharing how it helped them is even more assuring!
Solid advice @olumideolaseni!
I've just added the testimonials section. I'm using Senja which makes it super simple.
Looks like a really cool tool Jonahtan. Congrats on the launch 👍
Seems to be quite a few AI selfie tools out there. Are you able to compete?
Thanks @jakobjelling :)
You miss all shots you don't take, right?
I'll give it a chance. If it doesn't work out it's not the end of the world.
I've learnt SO much doing it. Also I have some additional ideas I can recycle from this project ;)
Stay in touch.
That is so true 👍 I've been working on growing my newsletter for a year and haven't monetized at all yet. But the learnings a very valuable.
Best of luck to you 🚀
