This is a really great article. If I may suggest, one thing is missing : Influence Marketing. There is a tone of amazing content creators out there (podcasters, Youtubers, Newsletters, Blogs) who would be more than happy to recommend your product to a community of Dev. That's what we are doing at Hint. :)

Developpers are more likely to adopt Ad Blocks and most of the Paid Ads you refer too can be easily avoided with these kind of blockers.

Working with influencers/Content Creators is an effective way to overcome Ad Blocks.

    What do you think?

      Thanks @marieangekn!

This article was meant to dive into specifically paid ads -> I personally don't think this is the best channel to use (our core is actually SEO) but it is something you probably want to have in your mix.

Influencer marketing is definitely solid in dev, yeah.

Hi, thank you for your answer and briging some nuance to my suggestion. You raise a very good point : "Is Influencer Marketing as Paid ads"?

Some consider it "Content Marketing", others consider that it's a different category by itself.

How do you actually engage with codefluencers though? That seems to be the tough part because they get so much spam already. I've really been struggling with this.

Hi Scott, thank your for your answer. There are several platform for newsletter ads like Hecto, LetterWell, or Paved who will allow you to target dev/technical profiles.

We are currently building an interface to cover all type of media (Twitter, Linkedin, TikTok, Podcast etc...) and allow marketers to find creators/opinion leaders in different B2B categories.

We are looking for Bêta testers so I would be more than happy to let you use it and have your opinion on it. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks for this. To speak to blog posting, articles comparing different products or technology seems to do very well.

Writing this type of content could be pretty simple too. The trick would be to look for those products that support integration with your product’s APIs so you can then add a line or two about how easy it is to integrate X or Y with your product.

Completely agree with developers hating paid google ads. I don't know why, but when I see paid ad in a google search I immediately skip it.

Your blog section design looks beautiful. What CMS or theme you use?

@appmetrix I am guilty of writing this one :) -> thanks @dkDavor for posting it here!

I am using webflow, specifically flowitail template that was customized.

[...] but devs do share some specific characteristics

I recognize myself in all these characteristics, and I don't like it :D!

Great article. I am not yet at the stage of advertising the product I am building but I find it already difficult to get early users to try my closed beta. Bookmarked!

If this can help others, I found that cold reach-out by Twitter DMs has a much higher response rate than targeted emails.

[...] allergic to “marketing” and advertising

A strategy I'm considering doing in the future is doing a more "subtle" marketing campaign by building open-source tools helpful to developers. I find myself more inclined to check out what companies sell when they build and distribute tooling to the community for free.

Fantastic advice for reaching and connecting with developers. I think most of this advice works well for advertizing in general.

The four parts of every paid ad campaign:

Goal: what do you want those people to do
Targeting: where and who you want to show your ads to
Creative: what you want to show them
Landing page: where they go after clicking your ad

Make sure you have planned each step and tell a consistent, compelling story.

This is a great guide to not just advertise to developers but many other segments as well.

Especially the part about features vs. benefits. So many people forget that they're targeting people at different stages of the buyer journeys. For those at a later stage, they already know the benefits and are comparing products by features.

    1. 1

Yes! I really appreciated that part too. It seems like the opposite of what a lot of traditional marketing will tell you! But if you've done a good job zeroing in on your target market, then saying, “5ms video load time” instead of “better videos quicker” is a much better option because, the why is already obvious to developers. Now they want to know how.

I was at point of loosing everything I had, before a colleague told me about a great CREDIT HACKER called KENSTAR. I spoke with him about the issues with my card on late payments. He listened and got my details. What I thought was impossible to handle, To the glory of God I was texted that 354 score have been added to my credit, late payments cleared in less than 72hours. Reach out to him via Email: [email protected]
