How to appear on top of google search?

Hey indie hackers!

Very simple question for today - how do you get your website to appear on top of google search?

We've done the following:

  • Created an SEO optimized website (with the right meta data)
  • Created a blog on Medium (SEO optimized)
  • Created our own blog website and added a blogpost about our product (SEO optimized)
  • Backlinking seems to be decent between these sites
  • Submitted our website urls to be indexed on Google

Is it just a matter of getting more visitors until Google ranks us higher?

Great work. Like @notacoder said, you're on the right path but you'll need some patience, a solid strategy and money.

Patience: SEO takes time. On average, you need to consistently post relevant information on your website to give Google the right signals it needs to rank you.

Strategy: Use a tool like Ahrefs or SEMrush to research keywords relevant to your niche. Create your content plan (aka blog posts) around these keywords. The best ones that will help you rank quickly are problem-focused, high traffic, low competition keywords.

P.S Google likes original content, so don't use Chat Gpt to spin articles, or Google will kill your site on its search results. Get it right from the beginning.

Money: This takes a lot of time, so you can start it off to understand the process but you might have to pay someone knowledgeable to do it for you.

How long does it take to start ranking on Google?

    It depends.

The quickest I've seen a site rank to the first page (Number 1 position on Google) was 8 hours. Hundred Google algorithm updates later, it fell to Number 3 position but its still there, hugging the front page.

Thank you! This is valuable info you are giving :)

That's an easy question to answer, you have to pay, SEM is the fastest way to appear as #1 on Google. Your SEO strategy is a good start, but you need to create a link building strategy focused on high DA sites. You've to remember that SEO will work in the long run, and you can't expect fast results with it...maybe you can have some quick results with some low-competition keywords.

    Best of luck,

Thank you! It looks like you are one of the few decent genuine replies here. I'll look into SEM and play around with it

I would suggest search ads on Google because you only need to do some attractive copys... Also, find a keyword with a good CPC and a nice search volume.

You can improve your SEO efforts by concentrating on user intent and optimising for particular keywords that users look for.

Been doing SEO for years across industries (mainly SaaS) and lately Google is so competitive now that you need to have a strategy in order to rank.

For most SaaS companies, there are 3 types of queries your customers are using:

    • I need a product that does x
    • I need an alternative to my current solution (your competitor)
    • I have a question and need an answer in order to do something for my job

The first two bullets represent the bottom of the funnel, the last bullet will be the middle and top of the funnel.

What you need to do is:

    • Identify your target customer and buyer persona(s)
    • Map out the questions they ask throughout the buyer's journey
    • Create feature pages for the bottom of the funnel queries
    • Create comparison pages for "alternative to" queries
    • Build topic clusters for the top of the funnel content
    • Structure your website accordingly, make sure important and helpful content is easy to find and not buried

Backlinks help speed things up, but you need a solid foundation for them to be really effective.

    As for tools:

    • Google Search Console is a must
    • GA4 (or a comparable analytics tool)

You can get pretty far with free tools for keyword research (Google Auto Suggest is a goldmine), for paid tools, there are dozens of options and if I can be forgiven for a bit of self-promotion, I built one with a goal of being simple and affordable (centori.io)

There's more to SEO than this, but starting here will give you a major head start on your competition which is likely still following the "turn a big list of keywords into blog posts and leave it at that" way of doing SEO (which has not worked for years).

what should be in the code of each page besides good meta description, title and keywords?

      1. 1

Good content - it's more than just using the keyword on the page, you need to make sure that your content matches the intent behind the keyword and comprehensively answers the question.

Over the last 2 years especially, Google has been focusing on content quality and the authority of a website over anything else.

For long-form content, H2 and H3 headings are critical as well to break up the page content (and be used strategically for keywords).

The quicker Google dies the better. Their search engine results are garbage even though fabform.io is ranking number 4 on page one. Veilmail.io is another story.

Yea... it is pretty hard to rank on there 😵‍💫

First you need to determine how competitive your keywords and niche is.

The truth is, you're not going to out rank legacy media for various topics. G give preferential treatment to these organizations, regardless of the "quality content"

The way around this is by creating landing pages (non-spammy) targeting long tail keywords that are less competitive and then funneling that traffic back to your main page

SEO takes time! If you want to accelerate this process, you'll need to pay

Imagine how many people are doing the things you are doing. Who gonna be on top ?

One indicator is backlink from high authority websites. Usually pr . Media company websites usually ranked high.

Another way is to target certain keyword specific for you region and use case. This one will work but takes a lot of time a lot of blogs , remember others are also doing it so you need to do more of it and get better back link.

One more thing is intention. How close are your blog and website to what people are searching for. So understanding what your user want to know and deliver it will surely helpful. Even better if you can become source for other people articles.

I made a tool that will help you. decentool.com. This tool will go tru thousands of keywords related to your market and niche and perform volume, difficulties and trend analysis and give you top 100 keywords to aim for.

I would recommend you to try it out.
