How to apper on Show HN?
I've submitted my personal finance app Pleke to Show Hacker News as a soft launch to gather feedback before launching on PH.
From their rules, submissions will show up on shownew and if they have enough votes they will show up on show which again if they have enough votes will show up on main page.
There are two levels to overcome and the rules say to not ask for votes... From what I've watched, some submissions gather votes suspiciously fast meanwhile the majority have no votes because they're on a two levels deep page.
Am I missing something or being too prudent on following the rules?
From my experience Show HN is great for such announcements as it's not as crowded as
newest. Voting rings are caught really quickly so you shouldn't send your friends a direct links to upvote. Best if it happens organically. Try to pick the right time, e.g. when there are some posts on shownew with a few votes and when the lowest ones on show only have a few upvotes. The algorithm will pick a high entry from shownew and move it to show in that case.Another thing (which is of course the same for other platforms) is to focus on why someone on HN might find your app interesting. Try to explain why it makes their life easier in the title and in the description.
