This was really good. Loved the tip from the Seth Godin interview.
Have you found any good resources on (podcast) interview technique? Basically more content like this aha?
Great writeup! When I was interviewing @csallen for my book, he said something really insightful about interviews. To paraphrase, it is important to do all of this preparation, to ask interesting questions, to practice your interview skills. Still, that only contributes 30 percent to the quality of the episode, most of it relies on your guest. Finding guests who will be good conversationalists is even more important, there are some people who will make any host look good, and there are some people who even the world's best interviewer couldn't get a good episode out of. This means that you should be putting research, thought, and effort into guest selection first.
However, once you have that excellent guest, all of this information is super important! I especially appreciate your focus on asking novel questions, setting hypothetical situations, and otherwise encouraging your guest to cover new ideas that they haven't spoken or written about before.
Thank you for reading Philip! 100% agree that guest selection is the core of all of it. If you don't pick the right guest, the results would be miserable even with all these preps.
