I had a chance to interview Jason Levin, a Vice President of Crisis and Risk Management at Edelman, the world's largest public relations and marketing consultancy firm.
Jason is called in when adversity strikes and is tasked with rapidly standing up effective teams.
💡 I thought I would summarize my learnings since I think they are applicable for myself and others on small teams as well:
Tools: It's worth a little investment up front to make sure you have the processes and tech stack in place to handle adversity it appears.
Alignment: Quickly get everyone on the same page. This means agreeing on goals and if you are working in a larger org, the messaging of those goals.
Culture: It's hard to create culture at a moment's notice. Hire and encourage team members that take responsibility for outcomes. It helps if everyone has a bit of a project management toolset.
Remote: Jason mentioned that in a way, remote work has actually made it easier to build trust since we are essentially in each other's homes for every meeting, looking at each other in ways we weren't previously.
