The other day @bgrgndzz asked if the analytics market is oversaturated.
I think the market for products isn't, but I fear that the Internet space for building an audience is.
Take an example search query like "google analytics marketing channels" - this is very likely a pain point for people, telling by comments on posts, but if you want to address it as a market you're up against Google's docs, agencies, existing tools doing their content marketing, influential bloggers...
My fear is that if I start producing artifacts saying "hey I'm an expert and you should trust me and here's why," it's just one more guy trying to get attention.
How else might I go about building the audience?
Hmm, I'm looking in the content marketing/SEO space which feels the same as analytics. Personally I think analytics is overserved - google analytics provides too much data, and only specialists know how to use it. So there are a bazillion solutions in this area, but if you focus on one market segment and do one thing well I think you have a chance. Building an audience? The average ROR on Content Marketing is TWO YEARS. So blogging will certainly help, but it will be hard to break out from the noise. That's why I'd suggest picking one specific pain point and nail it.
Simple Analytics is taking on Google Analytics.
In other areas...
Front has found a huge pain point in email. Of all things... Email!
Substack is taking on Mailchimp.... sorta... in Email!!
Lamda School is taking on all universities! Some schools have been around 800 years.
Gary Vaynerchuk used to be just another small business on YouTube.
There must be someone who is the first person motivated by Tony Robbins.
Seth Godin did one blog post, then another, then another.
What do you care about in the analytics space? Define them clearly for yourself and write about that? Start with something specific/niche and build upon it.
