How to commercialize ChatGPT-based SaaS?
I would like to create a SaaS based on ChatGPT, but it seems to me that this is not possible yet, right?
Apparently, there is no API yet besides some unofficial wrappers. I assume using these commercially would be illegal.
How to go about this? Do I have to wait until OpenAI commercially releases ChatGPT including a pricing model?
The other option I came up with is using already available models of OpenAI like Davinci, but I am not sure if they are good enough compared to ChatGPT.

No, it is not currently possible to create a stable SaaS with ChatGPT. As someone else said, there are unofficial APIs that violate OpenAI's TOS, which can get you banned.
However, there is GPT-3. I find it works just as well as ChatGPT. You can provide ChatGPT like answers by simply asking it to "be my assistant" for the prompt and cranking up the max character limit.
Davinci is a model of GPT-3 btw, it's essentially their best (and most expensive) model
If you're curious about AI APIs, there is Evoke, which is an AI as a service that hosts various open source AIs on the cloud and offers API access for developers making AI apps.
As of now, we're still greatly WIP and are just finishing up our stable diffusion API. However, in the near future, we do plan to have some open source LLMs on there.
But do be warned that these are perform worse than GPT-3. The main benefit is they're much cheaper and are censorship free (GPT-3 prohibits NSFW results, and will ban you for generating them).

There are some unofficial Chat GPT APIs even packaged as libraries already now. I guess it is relatively safe to assume that at some point the official API will exist so if you do want to release something on ChatGPT exactly ASAP, you should be able to do it.
It could just be useful to think of a PlanB if after all OpenAPI decides not to have the official API or creates it with some limitations not acceptable for your use case. For example, in the worst you might need to urgently pause/cancel all subscriptions and return the money unused. Good if your terms of use actually support it easily.

This is a great topic and one that will play out in the near future with the advent of Sparrow coming on board, then gpt4.
I was left loose last week to make my claim in this growing world of ai solutions and was able to get a solution that hasn't been done yet....Yay....now what?
I got banned from showing people in FB groups, I honestly had over 100 people interested after 15 mins of posting.
Then I did some demos and invited people that were interested, next minute.....post took down.
The interesting things as I just wanted feedback from like minded people in these groups, it's a shame the moderators are thinking that this tech accelerating means there is a buzz around atm and they should promote seeing breakthrough tech and welcome it with open arms.
I think by being here I may get a lot more help than in that old school framework.
Back you your question, I think the SaaS model may break as there are ways I have found that can remove most of the need to build something, just leverage other platforms as they have a higher budget than me.
