How to create a marketing agency?
A couple of days ago, I saw a tweet saying that marketers should be running startups, not market agencies.
Then he changed his mind saying they should start a marketing agency to learn and use cashflow to fund a startup because marketers and storytellers rule the world today. And as a marketing student, I became interested in the idea because I want to be an entrepreneur and build a startup in the future.
But I'm not sure how much it would cost to start a marketing agency, or how can I create a business like that with no cost at the beginning? and what are the requirements I must fulfill?
I've heard a lot of stories about young entrepreneurs starting their own marketing agency and such, but I'm not sure if that's possible.
Everybody and their moms are starting marketing firms these days. No one knows what it is, what it does, and how to go about doing it. But, hey, everything is figureoutable, right? (Marie Forleo said that)
My best advice is to not start a marketing firm. Instead find out what you’re good at in the equation. You’re either good at bringing in clients, or marketing.
If you’re good at sourcing clients, strike a deal with a marketing firm to give you a cut for every client you bring in. That way, you don’t have to ‘work for free for testimonials’ because you can piggyback on the firm’s reputation.
If you’re good at marketing, join a startup. Work on a result-oriented basis. If you’re good, they’ll pay you. If you’re not good, you’ll get a reality check.
Not sure if that is possible? It happens all the time.
