How to define features for MVP?

We recently finished idea validation of our self-productivity app. And now we're struggling to prioritize the features we want to implement in our MVP.
We would like to know, when you built your MVP, how you came up with features that need to have in MVP, and which features should come in later stages?
Start with picking the one most important feature. Then ask does that feature alone make your product useful? If no then keeping adding features one by one until it is. If yes then you have your MVP
Also - don't spend time automating too many things in your MVP. It's fine for the "Delete Account" button to just send you an email so you can manually do it. It's fine to not have automated tests. It's fine to not support IE8.

The Lean Startup by Eric Ries will help tremendously with MVPs. As for me I dont have direct experience with this so I may not be your best source.
The best advice I can give is ask your customers which features they may deem useful and try to implement off of the trends you see in their feedback. Sometimes features are completely unnecessary and sometimes they end up being the main focal point of the product after ditching the original idea.
MVP is very basic so the pick some of the top features you had originally thought of without over doing it and diluting what the MVP is meant for.
