How to discern if your product has no market fit or if it's just a problem with your marketing skills?

I've launched https://waitfeed.com several years ago. My plan was:

  1. Invest time building significant user base (or at least solid daily unique visitors). Gamers interested in new games - the perfect target audience for indie game developers.
  2. Introduce new features for indie game developers, that help to promote/validate/build newsletter sibscribers list and etc.

So the #1 step should be easy one, because it's for free and brings a benefit - user is able to keep up with news about upcoming game he is interested in.

Step #2 definitely solves huge issue: indie game developers tackle issues with promoting their games... So such platform could be very good, inexpensive platform for building up early users for their upcoming game.

The problem is that I struggle on #1. Unique visitors grow, but very slow.. the thing is that whatever place I was trying to get feedback about my project, almost everybody is excited and tells me that "this is the tool they were searching for a years" but despite that I don't see returning visitors or new registrations. Just slowly increasing organic traffic from the Google...

So I'm just wondering if there is no market need gor #1 step, or I totally fail with marketing?
