I'm selling a service that costs something at each sale. For example, an Uber ride or and on-demand cleaning service. Now my problem is, my users are saying that it's hard for them know what they are buying, or what to expect, so (besides the flashiest video) some form of a free trial would be good. But how can I do that without breaking the bank?
For context: We're selling remote tours through guides around the world. www.theportapp.com . Would love your feedback in any shape or form.
Thanks,
Philip
Instead of a trial you could instead show in detail how the product works: adding a YouTube video on the landing page that shows the product, show a lot of testimonials, add a “money back guaranteed ” policy
How about give them access to recorded videos of past tours for a period of days? But no free trial for live tours?
In Dublin, Ireland there are walking tours around the city (not right now with the lockdown, of course). The tour guides are usually locals with a bit of character, who tell stories about and give the history of each landmark.
Payment is via tips only - no upfront payments. The tips are voluntary. The groups can be quite sizable and the guides can make a good living.
As a starting point you could try something similar by building an expectation of a tip above a certain amount, while still keeping it voluntary. The danger here is that as you're selling virtual tours, it would be easier for the user to click away when the tour ends than it would be to walk away -- no social shame if you leave without tipping.
