How to do good as an indie hacker – Give in Public

Hi indie hackers,

From the moment I started ‘lurking’ here in the IH community, I have always found the build in public movement inspiring. It makes sense. You share the ups and the downs, and build a relationship with your audience. It’s a win-win.

I think there is a lot of potential to extend ‘Build in Public’ to include ‘Give in Public’. What I mean by this is to make doing good something we celebrate and openly talk about. Why? Because donations can have a huge impact and by being public about it, you can inspire others to also give.

Right now, I don't often speak about altruism in public because it can feel awkward and can be perceived as self-promotional. That is why I have been toying with a non for profit idea – Give in Public. The key goals are:

  1. Make it easy to pick the most effective charities
  2. Provide everyone who donates with their own dashboard that they can share on social media or embed on their own site. --> This can help to multiply your impact by inspiring others.
  3. Make it easy to do the administration around your donations (e.g. taxes)

I put together a landing page explaining the key concepts and I would love to get some feedback from you.
