Many of my potential customers hang out on Twitter. I'd find recent tweets where they are seeking help and where the solution is one of the free tools I have built. I'd reply to those tweets asking them to checkout the free tool. Similar strategy with Reddit and Facebook groups.
Also, I'd spent 30 minutes tackling low hanging SEO warnings / errors from Google Webmaster tools, especially on mobile. Organic search is another non-trivial lead generator for my business.
