How to find a good idea for your next SaaS

Hello,
we saw this question over and over again so we decided to gather our own experience and form some kind of a framework.

The whole process consists of 2 steps:

  1. Collecting a pool of ideas
    Where to look for them:
  • your own interests and hobbies
  • watching people around (really and virtually)
  • browse online catalogs and lists and
  1. Sifting the pool to select only good ideas
    Several stages:
  • check competition
  • check the feasibility
  • check your own feelings about the idea.

Eventually, you should have a really good idea - not only from the problem's point of view, but also from your own attitude because it's vitally important.

We described the whole process in our blog post, please read it here:

PLUS 3 SaaS ideas at the end of the post.

We also would be happy to hear feedback. Share what you personally do to find a good idea and how well it works!
Thanks!

Love this mate. To identify what a good idea is, I use the following checklist:

    1. The problem needs to be something that I am facing
    2. To validate I speak with 3-5 people who could potentially face the same problem and understand the current ways in which they solve it (don't pitch your solution)
    3. What competitors are out there at the moment

If the problem is validated and there are competitors then I believe it is an idea potentially worth pursuing.

Great! But how do you find the problems? I see most people stumble upon this, they just can't find problems to be solved.
