How to find more users?

I'm looking for advice on how to find more users for my software TogetherLetters.com. We help people stay socially connected without social media, it's all through email.

Right now we have a good handful of users, but user acquisition has been slower than we expected. So, we are looking to proactively get out there and get people using our free forever plan. Any advice is appreciated.

Monitor when someone on Reddit, HN or some other place mentions a competing product. Then either reply there as well, or send a DM.

You can use syften.com for the notifications.

Subreddits, Twitter threads, Facebook groups, Hacker News, Product Hunt, etc.

What's your acquisition funnels for your current users?

Thanks, this is a really helpful start. For current users we have just reached out to our personal networks and followers and gotten a good start. But, that hit a wall and now we need additional growth, prompting this post.

Make it more specific. I need to immediately know if it's for me.

Thanks, I've been working on this. Do you have any suggestions on how to be more specific than it currently is?

Yeah, I think there's something more here than just being for "people." Who should this be for? What group needs this?

    • Linkedin Groups like Leadership Think Tank might like this.
    • AppSumo Marketplace has small businesses who might like your product.
    • Consider creating a set of 50 templates to stay connected. Simple email outreach that actually gets your friends, family, colleagues, to respond and update you on what they are doing.
    • Free Facebook Group. Let FB do the work of finding your ppl. Make a group called "I Love Letters" I did this for Better Sheets and it's been nice. I Love Google Sheets

Wow, this is some really great advice, thanks! I'm working on a few of these now!

I built a small marketing tool for myself which I run locally:

    Imgur

It's been great for generating leads. There are a few similar tools online (e.g. mention.com) so consider giving those a try.

That's super cool. Is it open source? I would love to check it out

        No, it isn't.

Would you be willing to share it with the community? I'm sure more than I would love to see/use it

You can check out my tool syften.com which is what you're looking for

The amount of work needed to make it available online and usable by others is not trivial. If I were to go that route, it would make sense to just go ahead and productize it, but then I'd be competing against mention.com and the like.

Did you check out some of the other similar products that are already online? Was there something about my tool that stood out to you for some reason?

            1. 1

I guess that's fair. I'm sure you could turn it into a productized service fairly easily. The pricing for mention seems really high. If you wanted to turn yours into a saas, my immediate thought would be charge less than mention and maybe charge based on the types of alerts (email, txt, etc) and maybe even allow users to choose al la carte the website they get alerts from. Say they only want Twitter and indie hackers, but not Facebook or reddit. Something like that

Have you taken a look at something like f5bot.com? That's fairly similar, though only supports reddit and one or two other websites and only supports notifications via email.

I did think about productizing it after building it, but I don't believe there's a market for it unless the feature set is expanded substantially.

I have not personally looked into tools like this. Still new to the marketing side of the indie SaaS.
