Hey all,
I have a few ideas for a slack app and from searching around it appears that there are already some competitors which do something similar.. which isn’t a bad thing…. However I need to know how well these companies are performing, how many subscribers they have, what customers think of their product, etc … can anyone recommend any strategies for getting this info? Thanks
Well, Slack is a public company so it has to share its user data.
If you're talking about Mobile Apps, there's a tool called SensorTower. You can partially look at download revenue data for free.
For something like a slack apps, socials and looking for people talking about the app tend to be a decent heuristic.
As an example, reading through mentions of HeyTaco (A slack app I randomly chose for you) is pretty insightful.
Ie,

It's not a perfect metric, but a low hanging fruit one.
There is probably a decent micro product in making a Appannie like service for slack and similar non-mainstream app stores missing it.
