How to find right problem?

Hi, indie hackers!

I have a lot of experience in big tech companies (engineer, PM) and always wanted to start something on my own. Throughout my career I have observed raise of many businesses and instead of acting, I was an observer. I was too scared, there's always hundreds of reasons why I can fail. I've reached to the point, where I no longer engaged at work and finally emotionally ready to make a jump.

The problem that I'm having is that I'm looking for right problem to work on, but can't make a decision what to work on. I was thinking about that: why is it happening? I asked many founders on how did they discover their problems and there was not recipe how they found it. In many occurrences it was a combination of their observations, personal pain, people they interact with, timing and luck.

I have a goal to start a company and I wanted to come up with a problem. I started to dig into interested niches (looking at SaaS) and it's hard, since I'm not experienced enough in the niche itself and can't get good sense of the problem. Obvious solutions often exists and without deep understanding, it's hard to identify more settle pain points.

I was thinking, maybe I'm doing this wrong? Maybe, I can't force myself into problem seeking mode? I know that many people discover their problems themself through the pain they had. I don't remember myself being in this position. Certainly I've experienced pain/issues throughout my career, but I rarely was converting it into opportunity, I was looking for workarounds instead.

Do you think, I'm doing that wrong? Can force myself into problem seeking mode? I don't see a way how would it naturally come up to me.
