How to get ACTUALLY relevant and good looking ads on my website?
So I am running a website for people wanting to learn maths.
My users say often that my website is "clean" and "tidy" so I don't want to destroy that with ugly, overwhelming adds.
Also, my audience is very niche and specific, so if I was to run adds, they should also be extremely specific and relevant.
For example adds of math textbooks, colleges/universities, paid online courses etc. would be 100% ok.
However most websites that I see using google adsense have horrible adds, ugly, flashy (to the point of attacking you) and irrelevant not only to my interests but even to the content on the website.
So how can I achieve that? I would be willing to go as far as actually approving the adds by hand, to make sure they are absolutely fitting to my websites. I prefer to run no adds then to run crap adds.
Any ideas? Does something like that exist? Is there a way to "make" google adsense like that?
BuySellAds will let you list ad slots on their marketplace (or sell them through a hosted checkout form), and then you get to okay all the creatives that are bought to fill those slots.

Based on your traffic numbers, you could directly sell ad space on the website then dictate the exact format it should take.
Other than that you are the mercy of the ad network for aesthetics. Most will do well with targeting to the user, not necessarily your website content. For example, instead of an online course for Linear Algebra, a user may get an ad for beard oil based on their browsing history.
The real question is why do you want to display ads in the first place? If it is for money, then the ad networks will know what gets the most clicks and you the most money. However, it sounds like instead of ads, you need to have a different revenue model.
Without seeing your website, I would think some kind of premium content subscription could bring in more revenue than ads while allowing you to continue your aesthetic choices.
As I wrote, I have other ideas for monetization as well, but obviously ads could always add a few dollars.
I just want to catch balance between ads that bring SOME money, but still are non intrusive.
And as I suggested there are a lot of products that would be advertised on my website with an actual benefit to my user, so IT IS possible.
But I don't want my website to start looking like a christmas tree, and that's how most of websites using google adsense extensively look like to me. They become just plain ugly and unreadable with even 2 or 3 adds on the website.
The funny thing is a lot of those adsense ads will be targeted to you specifically. So you might be getting those really flashy ads because they are what you tend to engage with.
You should install some networks and take a look at their settings and inventory and figure it out, I'm sure they can accommodate you.
What do you mean by "me" here? Literally me as a user, or me as my website and my users?
It wouldn't make any sense to fit adds to my personal browsing lol, that's just strange. I would assume that google is smart enought and understand what kind of users visit this website.
I also understand that their approach might be statistically the best, that is generating the most amount of clicks.
I don't want a system that generates the most amount of clicks. I want the system that generates the least "yuuuck, this website looks like poop" reactions ;)
When you browse your website without any ad-block or anything the ads from Google or Facebook will be specific to you as a user. They know who you are and what you like and will show you ads you are most likely to engage with. The ads I see on my Facebook feed are completely different than the ones you see.
There are definitely ad networks or settings out there that will allow you to have that type of ads, though it's not something I've done specifically so I don't have more advice than that.
