How To Get More Loyal Users To This Website?

Explore, Discover, Share, Play, Pause, Go Frame by Frame (forward and backward) And Enjoy Best And Popular GIFs! - PubGif

Hi everyone!

As said in the title, how would you do to get more users to subscribe and be regular?
The problem I am facing is that I get visits (specially from paid ads) but people are not coming back.
So now, for a long term, what should I start doing?

An other question is: What would be the best business model to use? (I am testing Adsense currently but it doesn't seem to be promising for now).

Thanks in advance and have a nice day :)

To compete with giphy or tenor and the various ones out there, you got to have more content, engagement and users than them. So to start, I would recommend a niche - like start with funny things to share. Things maybe that other websites wouldn’t have in gif form but that most people would find funny. So that means you may have to manually convert some content to gif form or have some friends to do it, or pay people to do it. Also, if you start trying to monetize right away with ads, you may find less people sharing your link. Imgur is getting a lot of heat for it now, because users feel betrayed - they created the community, and now have ads interspersed with their posts. I don’t blame imgur because their hosting bills must be insane. I wish they reverted to their old interface though as the new one is quite buggy, but I digress.

Think of how youtube started with SNL videos. And ebaumsworld etc that came before it. The content formats matter (gifs vs flvs for example) as well (I won’t get into it here). And eventually, if and when you have the problem of huge traffic and hosting costs that go with it, you may also need to do some content moderation. This is not to deter you, but just to know what to expect down the line. I wish you luck and to summarize: have good if not unique content that has mass appeal and make it easy to share without annoying users with ads. You can later monetize with higher bandwidth uploads and premium / brand accounts.

      Hi @agerard!
I really appreciate your review so thank you :)

You're right about the content. It has to be either exclusive or viral, but in both ways it must be good so people wouldn't mind to share it.

For the ads, I thought it will be better to let people know that from their first experience. And I think, the way I am using it is not abusive, what do you think?
I don't want to make users feel betrayed like with Imgur or Youtube, so better warn them from the first time :)

The idea of a niche is really good too. I should pick some and work on that too.

      Thank you very much :)

I didn’t notice any ads, probably because I have an ad blocker, so can’t comment on that.

Another thing that I just thought of is having sponsored posts, especially if they relate to the audience of your niches.

I think it’s also good to see what your users are interested in. It will surprise you. Pinterest for example wanted to cater to devs at the beginning but found that moms wanted to share recipes on their platform so pivoted to support that.

Yes, if you have an ad blocker, ads won't show up.

I like the idea of sponsored posts but I should focus on getting more users and more visits first :)

You're right, I should listen to the users to know what they want, that will be definitely surprising .

I have put a newsletter form at the bottom of the home page to see if I can get some users attracted.

Thank you again for all these ideas :)
