How to get people to engage? beyond lip service?

gifts-done

I'm getting a lot of "hey that sounds awesome" and "I would use it" when I talk to people in person about my project, but I'm not getting many actual real customers. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I'd really appreciate suggestions for ways to make it more inviting or clear.

gifts-done is a service that takes the hassle out of gifting. We have built a network of small business suppliers (think people making stuff in their house and selling on Etsy) who will deliver wrapped gifts with notes. We have built a system to engage our suppliers just in time to send gifts.

We have kept costs as low as possible, offering a $5 per gift option or a $50 per year option. Users can register in about 10 seconds and setup a future gift in minutes.

We built exactly the service that we needed and it sounded like people we discussed the project with needed, but still, we have few customers.

Ideas?

I think part of the problem is you need to be much more specific about the problem you're solving/the value you're providing. As a consumer, I don't understand why I'd want to check out your product based on the description above.

As for marketing/acquiring new customers, including a voucher in the 'gift packages' for gift recipients is probably a nice way to grow organically. That won't help you with your current problem of finding product/market fit though.

Thanks. I need to throw some new copy together. Maybe I should lead with the point - 'automatic but personal gifting' or 'forget about reminders - just automate gifting'

    Here's my opinions:
I forget who said it, but 'That sounds interesting' is the startup kiss of death. It sounds nice but is it monetizable?
That being said, this is definitely a problem I personally have. Almost all my friends and relatives have gone without gifts from me for years :(
A few thoughts on the landing page. I don't like having to click through on the splash page to read any copy. Seems like you might lose people there.
Also, reading through the 'how it works' bit. It seems like too much setup effort.

Happy to talk more in depth. Reach out if you want.

I did kill the splash page and I added a short blurb about "why" before the flow of how it works - Can you see if that makes more sense to you?

Thanks. I can kill the splash page. I'll brainstorm today on a simpler 'how it works' - I would love to hear your more in depth thoughts.
