How to get the first 100 subscribers for my newsletter?

Hi Billel, what's your newsletter about? In other words what subjects, topics, industries are you planning to cover?

(1) Think of all the interest that someone might have in that field. They're probably following other firms, individuals from that same industry. Use that as audience criteria on channels like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook to zero in on those individuals.

(2) Build a great Landing Page that educates visitors on the value.

(3) Hang out on Twitter and post insightful tweets on the timeline of industry leaders/influencers from your industry. Create a great Twitter Banner and ensure that you have the URL of your firm in your profile.

(4) Guest posts on established blogs from your industry. Forbes, Business Insider, Harvard Business Review, Entrepreneur are good places to start. You can do a google search with something like keyword “submit a guest post”; keyword "guest post" etc. The keyword is basically the keyword from your industry.

Identify the prolific guest bloggers in your industry. Google for the name of prolific guest bloggers in your industry along with a phrase like “guest post by” for instance. This will reveal all the website where these guest bloggers have posted. So, these website should be good places for you as well, to guest post upon.

(5) Goes without saying but post quality content on your website. Carry out SEO properly and research long tail keywords.

Find your tribe and give them value, perhaps with something in your newsletter. I found a crypto community on reddit where I was reposing my articles and people would sign-up after reading.

Really depends on who you are targeting.

Hey Billel. I started my newsletter 9 months ago and now have 5.5K subscribers.

I got my first ~200 subscribers before I launched my newsletter by promoting it on my social media. Specifically, do an announcement post with the topics you will discuss.

Example: I’m so excited to launch my newsletter for gardeners to help them improve their yields. My first issue is about soul type, subscribe now so you don’t miss it.

Have you tried posting on here and asking for people to subscribe? The IH crowd can be really friendly and helpful especially when starting out.

I think it's best to exploit all free channels available - esp. slack groups and other chats and communities!

Hi Billel! I’m on a similar journey - just launched my newsletter.

My strategy was to get all family and friends subscribed initially (45 people subscribed!). I had a table with their names and the specific reason why the newsletter would be interesting for them according to their context. This was the initial kick off - since a few of the folks in this lists have the potential of being ‘super spreaders’.

Also - I’ve been quite focused on getting content that is ‘shareable’ - lists, interesting tips, etc. this is not a strategy just for now actually. But it does the trick.

I’ve also reached out to several PR/Media contacts to be part of several webinars, talks, etc - just to our my face and my name out there.m and try to promote my newsletter too.
