How to have a successful beta?

Hi there, I've spent the last few weeks building out the premium features for my app https://bulletjournal.app/

Bullet is an app for writing your journal and keeping track of tasks. It reached number 4 product of the day on Product Hunt back in January which was pretty unexpected and cool!

I want to get people's opinions before releasing, so I'm going to do a short beta.

I'm wondering if any of you have tips on how to have a successful beta?
Are there any good questions to ask the testers?

Also, if any of you are interested in participating in the beta, I'll be giving 6 months of the premium subscription to anyone who gives feedback, just send me a DM on twitter - @hamishjhnsn

Thanks!

  1. 3

When I launch something new (or help my clients launch something new) I have three goals for beta testers:

    1. Find bugs. This one is pretty easy.
    2. Does the product solve the problem it's meant to solve? Keep in mind, your beta testers are really only valuable if they are your target market. Do they have/understand the same problem you're solving? And does it solve it well? Do the people using the product "get it" right away? Or are they confused?
    3. What does the product NOT do that it could /should? If you fail at solving the initial problem, what could you pivot to?

There's lots of ways to go about asking specific questions but these are the important themes I'd look for answers to.
