How to identify problems and come up with ideas?

First, join the somebody make this group ❤. Second, be observant and be everywhere. If you do nothing except code you will only see coding issues. Which is a hard market to compete in since we can all code ourselves.

If you do nothing except go on indie hackers you will end up with a " I help indie hackers launch project". Which is nice I guess, but the market is saturated with products of that kind.

Hang out with people who aren't in the tech space. That's probably the easiest way to find some obscure problem no one has heard of.

I'm not good at coming up with ideas either, but I think one potential route is through freelancing.

I've met a number of freelance developers in the past who have eventually built their own products, and it seems like they've come up with the idea through observing the overlapping needs of multiple clients. In other words, they'll find themselves building very similar things for multiple clients and then realize that they can probably build it once and sell it to many more customers.

I have been writing some good ideas every week for close to 4000 subscribers. Coming up with an idea is relatively easy but coming up with an idea that you can invest your next 1 year isn't easy.

i've found that journaling your day-to-day activities is a pretty cool way to find problems to solve! you'll inevitably have issues (or things that could be improved to make your life easier) on any given day and after just a few days you'll find that patterns emerge. you've now identified your own problems and chances are someone else has them too :)
