How to know that your product is solving a real problem and when to stop validating and moving on

A while ago I started freelancing for a large company as an engineer.
After a very short time, it was clear to me that the process of product management, team management and synchronization between teams is a complete mess.

Because I always wanted to create a product myself and at the same time was exposed to indie hacking, I recognized a good opportunity: the company I'm developing for could become my first client IF I'll build something useful that will save the day.

I've decided to go for a Jira powered saas that represents Jira boards/epics/projects on the production website as pins with the relevant data from Jira. This gives design, product and dev a single and most updated source to get updates on the project, manage bugs and brainstorm (instead of hoping around between Jira, PRDs, Figma designs etc.)

And now what I'm curious about - how can I know that I'm solving an actual problem and not something I've thought of and trying to convince myself and others it's needed? I've created a landing page (https://feedbug.me) to see if it gets any visits or signup and published on Linkedin, Twitter and replied to a comment on IH with the link, but that resulted in very few visits.

So I'm wondering how hard should one push before conculding that validation is failed and it's time to move on?

It's great that you've identified a problem and are working on a potential solution with Solution Highland. It's important to validate your idea before investing too much time and effort into it. Your landing page and social media outreach are good ways to gauge interest and validate your idea, but it's possible that you may need to try other marketing strategies to get more traction. It's important to set clear goals and benchmarks for what you consider a successful validation, and if you don't meet them after a reasonable amount of effort, it may be time to reevaluate your idea and potentially move on to a new project. Good luck with your venture!

    Hey,

The best and most effective test is not validating.

It's to see whether other businesses are solving the same problem you solve with a paying solution. And are they successfully doing so (do they have lots of paying customers)?

    No?

    Drop it.

    Yes?

    It's validated.

Marketing can take some time to work (especially when you use an ineffective strategy like only selling a product), so don't rely on landing page signups to be your barometer.

I would consider contacting some agile coaches or consultans. They are often hired by companies that has a productivity issue. So they can help you push your tool, or at least give some indsigt in if this is needed. I think you realy need a strong case story a company that did better due to your exstention. Then push that story instead of the tool ot self. See if people relate with the problem instead of getting them hooked on a solution.

That a good idea. Didn't occure to me even to speak with an agile expert.

Hey @Danniz, great to see that you launched a landing page! I believe you are actually looking for a customer-problem fit. The question is; "Is there a big enough problem that a certain group of early adopters would be willing to pay for to solve their problem?". There are certain tactics that could help you get to that AHA! moment. If you need any help, there are 4 things that you can do: 1) Email me at [email protected] 2) Review https://maven.com/seven-fit-framework/productmarket-fit 3) Fill out https://maven.com/forms/f706b9 to get in the waiting list. 4) Book a free session with me on https://app.growthmentor.com/mentors/ilke-karabogali
