How to let users know… it was only a painted door test?

Hey all đź‘‹

Long story short… we threw up a sleek painted door test and it received lots of interest. We emailed everyone that signed up for the “beta” and asked for additional feedback on what their use cases would be. Lots of positive responses and eagerness to start using the product. Only problem is, the product doesn’t exist yet.

Wanted to throw this out here and see how you all would respond to these emails?

How have you broken the “this was a painted door test” news to the user, but still kept them in your feedback loop?

    Hi Blake,

I think it depends a lot on how you 'sold' it... If you suggested the beta was available, then that may not have been the best decision. You need to manage the expectations of those signing up.

Always be honest with the interested potential users and let them know when you expect to start with the beta program. If you're still in early stages, you can reach out to see if they're interested to discuss the product with you. Depends on your stage in the process and your current plans.

To answer your question: I've not had to do that yet. Bu I stated on the website clearly that we haven't launched yet. But my beta-program may be starting soon... 🤞

Maybe stating the obvious, but I hope this helps...

    All the best!
