How to lift your product off the ground?

Hello Indie Hacker! I am the cofounder of preps, a mock interview app that helps software engineers to practice coding interviews by speaking to AI.

My cofounder and I have been building this for about 6 months now, and we are ready to take our app to the market. However, we are unsure what steps to take from here.

Our marketing strategy is categorized into two:

  • direct outreach (cold emailing to target groups like coding bootcamps)
  • social media (reddit, hackernews, product hunt etc).

Is there anything else we should be considering? How did you all do it?

Focus on marketing at potential channels that you've planned. Don't get distracted and try to collect as much of early users feedback as you can.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone with Preps! Here are some practical next steps you can consider to enhance your go-to-market strategy:

    1. Beta Testing with Target Users: Reach out to coding bootcamps, tech meetups, and online coding communities to recruit beta testers. Offer them early access in exchange for feedback and testimonials.

    2. Content Marketing: Create valuable content such as blog posts, tutorials, and case studies related to coding interviews and share them on platforms like Medium, LinkedIn, and your own website to drive organic traffic.

    3. Partnerships and Collaborations: Partner with coding bootcamps, tech educators, and influencers in the software engineering space to promote your app. Consider offering them a commission or a referral fee.

    4. Email Marketing: Build an email list by offering a free e-book or coding interview tips. Regularly send out newsletters with valuable content and updates about your app.

    5. SEO: Optimize your website with relevant keywords to improve search visibility. Invest in SEO to drive organic traffic to your website.

    6. Paid Advertising: Consider running targeted ads on platforms like Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn to reach potential users. Focus on specific demographics and interests related to software engineering and coding interviews.

    7. User Reviews and Testimonials: Encourage early users to leave reviews and testimonials on your website. Positive reviews can significantly boost credibility and attract more users.

    8. Webinars and Live Demos: Host webinars and live demo sessions to showcase the features and benefits of your app. This can help build trust and engage directly with potential users.

    9. Tracking and Analytics: Implement tracking tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Amplitude to monitor user behavior, track conversions, and measure the effectiveness of your marketing efforts.

    10. Iterate Based on Feedback: Continuously collect feedback from users and iterate on your app to improve user experience and address any issues.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your launch!
