How to look like a scam - SearchMyDocs marketing

"We welcomed you to SearchMyDocs two days ago as one of your contacts has shared files with you and these are now searchable in your SearchMyDocs account.

As a ‘friend of a friend’ you can get the first year at a 50% discount. Just $25 for a full year’s search across all your cloud software and devices (phones and computers)! "

That was the second email, the first started:
"One of your contacts has shared files with you in SearchMyDocs.

This is great news as SearchMyDocs lets you search across ALL your cloud locations and devices, including content shared with you by others. It’s available on the web, desktop and mobile."

Am I being paranoid or does this look totally like a scam?

Nobody has told me they sent me docs via that - the link comes from the company not from a friend.

I can't even see the first document supposedly shared with me without signing up a subscription.

On the off-chance that this is legit, I was going to give them some solid feedback on how they appear but thought I'd float it here first to see how others react.
