How to make downloadable content available to blog visitors?

What is the easiest way to make downloadable content available to visitors to my blog? Is Dropbox link or Gumroad the only viable option?

I want to eventually only allow subscribers or paying users download that content.

Does anyone else feel it is needlessly hard to simply create a link of the blog to a pdf which people can download if they want to?
